Health Time Capsule - Day 1 WEGO Health Blog

I'm participating in the WEGO Health Blog's 'Health Activist Writer's Month Challenge' where bloggers are asked to write about their conditions. The goal is to write from these 30 health related prompts for 30 days April.

Today is day number one.
Health Time Capsule: Pretend you're making a time capsule of you and your health focus that won't be opened until 2112. What's in it? What would people think of it when they found it?

Our Time Capsule

How would I encapsulate diabetes to show others what it was like, in 2012, to have and care for someone with diabetes? All I can think of is all the things that we use to take care of Grace. The literal things. There are so many devices we use to keep her healthy.

Here is what I would put into our time capsule:

syringes
an empty, or perhaps for posterity, a completely full bottle of Novolog
a glucometer
lancets
Grace's logbook of BGs
a Calorie King carb counting book (this ought to make them chuckle in 2112)
a food scale
test strips
ketone blood test strips
the damn Pink Panther book!
Grace's information about being admitted to the hospital upon her diagnosis in January, 2009
an OmniPod, with the original operation book
a note, from me, that tells them of my hope for a cure for Type 1

and most importantly,
a picture of Grace
